The Defence Forces of Papua New Guinea continued to wear their pre-independence uniforms for a number of years. It was modified by the addition of an embroidered bird of paradise badge fixed above the right pocket.

This junior NCO continues to wear the juniper green beret with regimental badge attached to the left front.

He wears the Australian Army’s jungle green shirt and trousers. The shirt has cut-off sleeves, on which are short rank chevrons.

The unit’s red lanyard is worn around the right shoulder, and the regimental slide is worn on the shoulder straps.

Around the waist is a black leather belt with regimental brass clasp.

The trousers are bloused over high boots.
