As stated previously, many units had an integral transport element, and the Guards were no different. Headdress – Guards version of the Broderick undress cap with Grenadier’s red band and crown piping. The unit badge was attached to the front of the crown. Unlike the rest of the regular army, the Guards retained the Broderick for many years. Jacket – Short white cloth item with twisted white cords on the shoulders. It was closed down the front with brass buttons, one also closing the cuffs. This jacket had been in use by the Guards for decades, and remains so. The Scottish regiments also used this item. On the right sleeve are the two white chevrons of this member’s rank, piped with black and on red backing material. Legwear – Cord breeches tucked into Napoleon riding boots.
The photograph below shows the jacket being worn by a Scots guardsman. Below this the Grenadiers' cap badge.
