At this time the Indonesian Army was involved in the 'Confrontation', attempting to destabilise the Federation of Malaya to increase its influence in South East Asia.
The Predominant forces used in action were special forces and not normal infantry.
This senior Non-Commissioned Officer wears a US M1 helmet painted darkish green, with a green web chin strap. His uniform is jungle green cotton, consisting of a shirt and trousers. There are pockets on the chest and thighs.
On each upper arm are the three black inverted chevrons of rank, indicating a senior non-commissioned officer.
His equipment is American in origin. The cartridge pouches carry clips for his WW2 vintage 0.30in Garand Semi-automatic rifle.
