The Volunteers adopted a mixed set of uniforms. The parade dress followed Imperial infantry patterns, and was scarlet with white facings and gilt lace. For field duty khaki drill was used.
This Officer wears the Corps blue felt hat with its thin leather hatband. The Corps badge is attached to the turned up left brim, as shown below.
His jacket is of a standard pattern for the time with stand collar. His rank ‘pip’s are attached to the shoulder straps. The jacket buttons are also shown below.
His equipment is a Sam Browne belt with two supporting straps as worn by the infantry during this period. The scabbard has a white metal end and shoe.
Instead of drill trousers he wears normal infantry items with a red welt down the outer seams. These are tucked into leather gaiters.
Brown leather gloves are worn on parade.
Below is the undress cap and jacket of a Corporal of the Corps. The cap has the Corps’ badge attached to the left front of the crown. Of note are the plain pockets and the gilt lace on red backing chevrons.
He carries basic belt order with the bayonet for his Martini Henry rifle hanging behind the left hip.
