In 1935 the officers of the Army and Air Corps were provided with a coloured ceremonial uniform. This was Corps specific in colour, and double breasted for the mounted Corps. It proved an attractive set of clothing that was worn into the 1950s.
This officer of Artillery wears the distinctive shako used with this uniform. It is in the traditional artillery colours of dark blue with red features (here the crown). Gilt piping and chin cords decorate the cap.
His tunic is the double breasted pattern with red and gilt piping around the front plastron. Gilt shoulder cords are worn, with rank insignia attached, and gilt lace rings the sleeves above the cuff patch. The collar and rear have simple red piping.
An additional ornamentation is the gilt cord hanging around the left shoulder.
His trousers have two thick red stripes down the outer seams, split by a gilt welt.
On ceremonial duty he carries a sword and wears white gloves.
