The heat of India had led successive British units to wear white for parade and field duties. By the late 1800s light khaki drill had replaced white in the field, but was retained for ceremonial duties. The uniform was a simple one with few buttons, as shown here.

The Royal Inniskilling's had a band that included pipers who did not wear a distinctive uniform like those of the Scottish regiments. This piper wears the standard hot weather headdress of the time, a white covered Wolesley helmet. Tucked into the left side of the puggaree is a grey plume, a distinction of the unit.

His jacket and trousers are white drill. The only affectation is the band's red aiguillette hung around the neck and right shoulder.
