The appearance of elements of the Bulgarian Army, at this time, seems not to have changed for about 40-odd years. Two photographs, later than 1914, are shown below
Headdress – Peaked cap is white cloth with the nation's white, red and green cockade was fixed to the front of the band. The peak and chin strap are leather. Attached to the front of the band is the national cockade.
Shirt – This summer cotton or linen item is a simple pullover item in the style of the Russian gymnasterka. It has a low stand collar, and a fly font covering the buttons on the chest. There are no pockets but the cuffs are gathered and buttoned closed.
Equipment – Older Austrian pattern of equipment consisting of a leather waist belt with simple open buckle. There are two contoured ammunition pouches attached to the front. These are designed to make access easier for a right handed soldier. Over the shoulders are two supporting straps also leather, which meets to form a ‘Y’ on the back. The bayonet frog is attached to the belt, worn behind the left hip.
Legwear – Brown serge breeches tucked into high marching boots.
Weapon – 8mm Mannlicher M93 rifle and bayonet.
