Ghana had been independent for less than five years, the military still showed the British influence in their uniforms.

Headdress – Dark blue beret with Ghanaian forces badge attached to the front.

Shirt – Khaki drill item with chest pockets and full length front opening. Sleeves rolled up to dissipate the heat.

Equipment – Blackened British 1937 pattern webbing belt with brass attachments. This is fixed over a red waist sash, a carry-over from colonial times and the RWAFF uniform. Bayonet hanging from the belt, to the rear of the left hip.

Legwear – Drill shorts. Long khaki hose tops worn with short putties and ankle boots.

Weapon – 7.62mm L1 Self Loading Rifle.
