This soldier is serving with the RIR on garrison duty in India. His headdress is the temperate forage cap of dark (rifle) green with black lace band. The unit badge was attached to the front of the band. His uniform consists of a drill tunic and trousers, much lighter than the serge service dress that was worn in cold weather.

The trousers are not confined by putties either for a parade or because of the heat.

Unusually he carries the older bandolier equipment instead of the 1908 webbing that was available in England. His set is almost complete at the front with five pouches on the front of the cross belt, but only two on the waistbelt (instead of the prescribed four).

He carries a SMLE rifle and bayonet.
