Many armies maintained a distinction between standard infantry units and those of light infantry, Chasseurs a Pied, Jaegers, Bersaglieri and so on. The actual differences between the two forms of foot soldiers is now relatively minor, but tradition and being set apart from the standard makes the Light Infantry 'different'.

Headdress – Large khaki serge beret pulled to the left side. Attached to the apex, for parades, is a green cord and tassel.

Jacket – Serge item with fall collar and plain shoulder straps. The Corps’ bugle badges are attached to the collar ends. On the chest are pleated pockets with three pointed flaps. The front is closed with five buttons.

Equipment – Standard Army leather waist belt with square buckle. The buckle is embossed with the Corps badge. The bayonet frog is attached to the belt, hanging behind the left hip.

For ceremonial duty, or perhaps walking out, white gloves are worn.

Legwear – Serge breeches tucked into long serge putties, worn over ankle boots.

Weapon – A Spanish version of the Mauser design is carried, the M93 model with bayonet. An example is shown at the bottom of the page.

Below are two photographs of the universal pattern 0f uniform worn at this time in Spain.
