This unit was formed in the late 1880s but did not make it to Federation in 1901, becoming a sub-unit of the Queensland Rifles. Headdress – Dark blue Glengarry cap with a diced band of red, white and green. A red pompom was stitched to the crown. Black ribbon decorates the bottom edge and hangs down the back. The unit badge was fixed to a square of black ribbon on the left side of the cap. Tunic – Grey cloth with red facing cloth on the collar, shoulder straps and cuffs. Piping on the latter created an Austrian knot. The front, skirts and rear were also piped with red cord, as were the pointed pocket flaps. White metal buttons closed the front. Rank is shown by the crown above three chevrons, on silver lace on red backing, stitched to the right sleeve. Another indicator of status is the crimson sash worn by Sergeants and Sergeant Majors. Legwear – Grey trousers with a thin red welt down the side seams, worn over ankle boots. Equipment – White leather waist belt closed with a brass union buckle. The bayonet frog hung behind the left hip. Weapon – Calibre 0.45in Martini Henry rifle Mk.I with bayonet.
