The French influence on this uniform is evident but dated. This Carabinier looks very similar to a French infantryman from the late 1870s, early 1880s before the introduction of the single breasted tunic.

The headdress is a shako of blue felt with leather reinforcement, and a red pompom attached to the crown.

The jacket is simple with red piping adding colour to the collar, front, skirt and rear. It also features on the cuffs and as a welt on the outer seams of the blue-grey winter trousers.

The equipment remains the black leather version, supporting the yataghan bayonet for his M1874 Gras rifle.

Drill trousers are worn over white gaiters and ankle boots.
