This senior NCO wears a form of mess kit known as ‘Red Sea’ rig, used when the conditions were very warm.

It is a simple affair of white shirt with long sleeves. The regimental slide is worn on the shoulder straps.

Gilt lace rank chevrons, on red backing, are worn on both sleeves.

Around the waist is a cummerbund.

His mess trousers have a thin red welt down the outer seams.

The officers wore the same uniform with rank badges attached to the slides.
