The ceremonial troop of Irish cavalry was first formed in 1931 It provided escorts to the President of Eire and visiting dignitaries until 1949.

The uniform is a hussar pattern in sapphire blue with saffron yellow cording (gilt for officers). The chest decoration is not the usual drop loops, instead crow’s feet are used on both front and rear.

The busby is British in style, of black fur with saffron yellow distinctions throughout.

This trooper’s equipment is simply a cross belt with black pouch at the rear. He carries a sword for display.

The breeches of the uniform are flared and have a single thick saffron yellow stripe down the seams. They are tucked into Napoleon boots.
