The main purpose of Erik XIV:s military reforms was to make the army based dominantly on native men. Since such an army would make the nation less vulnerable e.g. if the ports were blocked then new mercenaries couldn't arrive untill the blockade was broken. Thus it was decided that the bailiffs should recruit able peasant boys for soldiering, the recruits were given pay and their homesteads were relieved of taxes. This was propagated in churches and other places where the crown could reach the ears of the people, "so that the young men, who serviceable are soldiers, the more favorably would enter our service" instead of, as before, lay in the forrests "as wolves and wild animals". Int the army they should "learn what honour and uprightness means". Within 4 years Erik XIV had increased the army from 11900 men to 24500 men.

Here we have a Rodelero (Rondassiär or Rondellknekt as they are known in Sweden) equipped with Mutzer, which is the name for the stripped armour, in other words without Cuisses or more. It seems that the soldiers equipped with the Mutzer wore the Morion (or as we call them Stormhatt or Spanskhuva). It should also be noted that that Mutzer was very common since it was cheaper and thuse often replaced the heavy and expensive Knektetyg. The Swedish Rondeleros were also equiped with a pistol. (so imagine that it's out of view.
